Allograft Based Scaffolds for Meniscus Transplantation: An In Vivo Sheep Study

چکیده

Allograft INTRODUCTION: Meniscectomy is one of the most common procedures performed in orthopaedic surgery. The meniscus plays a critical role in knee joint biomechanics. With loss of meniscus function there is an increased risk of arthritic changes in the knee. The gold standard treatment for symptomatic meniscus deficiency is allograft transplantation. Current meniscus transplants are associated with incomplete cellular incorporation, absence of cell proliferation, and microscopic immune response. Scaffold

Comparison of the Ex Vivo Expansion of UCB-Derived CD34+ in 3D DBM/MBA Scaffolds with USSC as a Feeder Layer

Objective(s): Ex vivo expansion of hematopoitic stem cells is an alternative way to increase umbilical cord blood (UCB)-CD34+ cells for bone marrow transplantation. For this purpose demineralized bone matrix (DBM) and mineralized bone allograft (MBA) as two scaffolds based on bone matrix and stem cell niche, were simultaneously used to enhance the effect of human mesenchymal pro...

CARTILAGE REPAIR TECHNIQUES IN THE KNEE (A DHAWAN, SECTION EDITOR) Meniscus transplantation

Understanding the structure and function of the meniscus is critical to understanding its role in overall knee joint function. Injury to, or removal of, meniscal tissue may be associated with articular cartilage wear, knee instability, and, ultimately, the progression of osteoarthritis. While every effort is made for preserving and/or repairing damaged meniscal tissue, in some cases, the menisc...

Meniscal Transplants and Scaffolds: A Systematic Review of the Literature

The reported incidence of meniscal tears is approximately 61 per 100,000. In instances where preservation of the native meniscus is no longer a feasible option, meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) and implants or scaffolds may be considered. The goal of this review was to compare the success and failure rates of two techniques, MAT and meniscal scaffolds, and make an inference which treatm...

Surgical options for meniscal replacement.

As a result of biologic issues and technical limitations, repair of the meniscus is indicated for unstable, peripheral vertical tears; most other types of meniscal tears that are degenerative, significantly traumatized, and/or located in an avascular area of the meniscus are managed with partial meniscectomy. Options to restore the meniscus range from allograft transplantation to the use of syn...

Tissue Engineering Scaffolds: History, Types and Construction Methods

Tissue engineering is a rapidly growing research field, potentially capable of de novo tissue and organ construction. This approach is used to improve efficiency both in the tissue and cell culture. This method is required to provide bodies in vivo three-dimensional conditions outside of the body (ex vivo). To achieve this goal, given tissue cells are cultured on the tissue engineering scaffold...
